April 13, 2026

10 minute read

Great advocacy is more than just experience: it is also about character and purpose. In this series, we take a moment to introduce you to the individuals who make up the firm, by asking 5 quick questions that help you get to know them a little bit better.

This month: firm founder Steven N. Berger.

Steve Berger is honored for his contributions to the American College of Bankruptcy by Chair Charles A. Beckham, Jr.
The ACB is an honorary group dedicated to the enhancement of professionalism, scholarship, and service in bankruptcy and insolvency law and practice.
Membership is by invitation only and based on a sustained record of achievement.

1.      I became a lawyer because…

Giving advice and counsel was a natural extension of my personality, from late night phone calls with college friends to leadership positions in community organizations. At the center of every legal matter is a person or group that needs advice to get through a situation, whether they have been wronged, or accused of wrongdoing or find themselves in a situation involving business problems or other issues that bump up against legal rights. I enjoy being there for them.

2.      If I did not become an attorney, my other dream career would be…

My childhood ideas were being a butcher, a writer or a rabbi. Maybe I combined them into one job.

3.      One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was…

Pick your battles wisely.

Runner Up:  “If you don’t ask, you won’t know.”

4.      One of my favorite movies is…

“Broadway Danny Rose,” “Chinatown” or “Lawrence of Arabia” (in addition to the Godfather Trilogy).

5.      My last listen (podcast, playlist or audiobook) was…

“Tapestry” (Carole King)
