Founding Partner Steven N. Berger of Engelman Berger has been named to Phoenix Magazine’s 2026 “Top Lawyers” list. Recognized for his expertise in Bankruptcy & Reorganization, Berger earned the honor based on votes from his peers in the legal community. This is the third time he has received the designation.
The Top Lawyers list is based on a peer survey of practicing attorneys in the greater Phoenix area. Lawyers nominate their colleagues in 38 legal specialties, ensuring they include at least one attorney from outside of their own firm. The top 10 to 20 percent of vote-getters in each category are selected for the list. Inclusion is a singular honor, as no lawyer can pay to be featured.
Berger, who co-founded the firm in 1999, has focused his career on resolution of complex business situations through effective representation of clients in bankruptcy or other reorganization proceedings, including loan workouts, business transactions, and litigation.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, an invitation-only distinction recognizing proven professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the field of bankruptcy and insolvency law. He is also a charter member of the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court. Outside of the firm, he has been an active leader in advancing the work of both professional and community organizations. He presently serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Arizona State Bar’s Mentorship Program.
