Engelman Berger, in partnership with Local First Arizona and the City of Glendale, will present a free program designed to help business owners better understand contracts, recognize potential risks and avoid costly mistakes. “Contracts Without the Confusion: A Plain-English Guide for Business Owners” will be held Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Influence Studios in Glendale.
Engelman Berger attorneys Celeste del Carmen Tabares and Scott B. Cohen will lead the program, designed to help business owners better understand the contracts they encounter and recognize potential problems before they lead to disputes.
The program will offer practical guidance on which contracts growing businesses should have in place, common contract provisions, terms that deserve closer attention and red flags that can create unexpected financial or legal exposure. Tabares and Cohen will also share practical strategies business owners can use to protect their companies, relationships, time and resources while reducing the likelihood of litigation.
“Contracts are part of nearly every business relationship, from hiring employees and leasing space to working with vendors and serving customers,” said Tabares. “Confusing language, overlooked provisions and seemingly minor details are what often exposes business owners to unnecessary risk.”
“Our goal is to take some of the mystery out of the process,” added Cohen. “This program will give entrepreneurs the information they need to ask better questions, recognize potential risks and make more informed decisions.”
The program reflects Engelman Berger’s ongoing support for Arizona’s business community and the work of Local First Arizona, which is dedicated to strengthening locally owned businesses and communities and building a thriving, inclusive Arizona economy through providing education, entrepreneurial support and access to resources.
