Celeste del Carmen Tabares of Engelman Berger, having successfully passed the Navajo Nation Bar Exam, has been sworn in to practice by the Navajo Nation Supreme Court. The exam itself is a rigorous process that not only includes a focus on the law but also requires a thorough working knowledge of tribal customs and tradition. With her admission, Tabares joins a select group of attorneys qualified to represent individuals and organizations within the jurisdiction of the Navajo Nation, the largest Native American reservation in the United States.

The Navajo Nation operates a sovereign legal system that blends traditional tribal laws with modern legal frameworks. As such, navigating this legal landscape requires a deep understanding of the culture and values of the Navajo people.

Celeste del Carmen Tabares is congratulated on her admission by the Honorable Eleanor Shirley, Navajo Nation Supreme Court Justice.

“This admission cements my commitment to providing comprehensive legal services to the members of this sovereign community with honor and respect,” said Tabares.

At Engelman Berger, Tabares practices in the Creditor’s Rights and Litigation Practices. She joined Engelman Berger after working with the Tenants Eviction Assistance Project, where she provided legal assistance to tenants in the City of Phoenix facing eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, she is committed to using her legal skills to serve her community. del Carmen Tabares is fluent in Spanish.
